GORDON COOK MOTORCYCLE TRAINING
Learn. Improve. Enjoy.
Whether you have never ridden a motorcycle before, want to build your confidence, improve a particular part of your riding or take your skills further, Gordon Cook Motorcycle Training provides relaxed, professional, rider-focused training.
The emphasis is simple:
Real skills. Real confidence. Safer, smoother, more enjoyable riding.
Training is tailored around the individual wherever possible, rather than forcing every rider through the same programme.
LEARN TO RIDE
Never ridden a motorcycle before?
The Learn to Ride Motorcycle Taster Experience is designed for complete beginners who want to experience riding a motorcycle in a safe, controlled environment.
It is ideal for anyone who has always thought:
“I’d love to try riding a motorbike.”
You will be introduced to the motorcycle gradually and at your own pace on a suitable private training area.
Depending upon your progress, the session can include:
  • Introduction to the motorcycle and its controls
  • Correct riding position
  • Starting and stopping
  • Clutch control
  • Finding and controlling the biting point
  • Moving away smoothly
  • Controlled braking
  • Steering and balance
  • Slow-speed riding
  • Basic manoeuvring
  • Introduction to gear changing where appropriate

There is no test and no pressure to reach a particular standard.
The whole point is to give you a genuine first experience of motorcycling and allow you to decide whether riding is for you.
Perfect for:
  • Complete beginners
  • Birthday presents
  • Christmas gifts
  • Experience-day vouchers
  • Couples, friends and family
  • Anyone curious about motorcycling

Motorcycle and suitable equipment can be provided subject to availability and sizing.
This is an introductory motorcycle experience on private ground. It does not provide a motorcycle licence or road-riding qualification.

1-TO-1 MOTORCYCLE TUITION
Training built around you.
Sometimes you do not need a standard course.
You simply want an experienced instructor to concentrate entirely on your riding.
One-to-one tuition allows the session to be built around your ability, your motorcycle and what you actually want to improve.
Training can focus on:
  • Slow-speed control
  • Clutch and throttle coordination
  • Braking
  • Observation
  • Junctions
  • Roundabouts
  • Road positioning
  • Cornering
  • Gear selection
  • Urban riding
  • Country roads
  • Confidence
  • Heavy motorcycles
  • Riding an unfamiliar motorcycle
  • Smoother riding
  • Safer riding habits
We identify the areas you want to work on and build the session around them.
MOTORCYCLE CONFIDENCE TRAINING
Get your confidence back.
Sometimes the problem is not ability.
It is confidence.
Perhaps you have dropped a motorcycle.
Maybe you have bought a larger or heavier bike.
Perhaps you have had a frightening moment on the road.
Or maybe you simply do not feel as comfortable as you used to.
A dedicated confidence session allows us to slow everything down and work through the problem properly.
Sessions can include:
  • Moving and manoeuvring the motorcycle
  • Mounting and dismounting
  • Slow-speed balance
  • Starting and stopping
  • Tight turns
  • U-turns
  • Hill starts
  • Parking
  • Braking
  • Junction confidence
  • Traffic confidence
  • Riding larger motorcycles
  • Getting comfortable with an unfamiliar bike
  • The pace is set around you.

There is no embarrassment in going back over the basics.
Good riders work on weaknesses rather than pretending they do not have them.
RIDER DEVELOPMENT
Take your riding further.
There is always more to learn.
Rider development is about becoming:
Smoother. Safer. More observant. More confident.
Sessions can cover:
  • Forward observation
  • Planning
  • Hazard awareness
  • Road positioning
  • Cornering
  • Braking
  • Gear selection
  • Rural roads
  • Urban roads
  • Motorways
  • Overtaking decisions
  • Progressive riding
  • Smoothness and stability
  • Machine control
  • Developing a systematic approach to riding
The aim is not simply to ride faster.
The aim is to give you more time, more information and more options.
That is what good riding is really about.

ADVANCED RIDING DEVELOPMENT
Beyond the basics.
For experienced riders who want to take their skills further, advanced rider development focuses on improving observation, planning, positioning, smoothness and decision-making.

Training is based around the rider in front of us rather than simply ticking boxes.

Learn • Improve • Enjoy

TRAIN ON YOUR OWN MOTORCYCLE

For many riders, the best training is carried out on the motorcycle they actually use.

That allows us to work on the real issues you experience day to day.

Maybe your bike feels heavy.

Perhaps the throttle is sensitive.

Maybe slow manoeuvring is difficult.

Or you simply want to understand how to get the best from your particular motorcycle.

Where appropriate, training can be undertaken on your own machine.

MULTIPLE TRAINING LOCATIONS

Training closer to you.

Selected motorcycle training and experience sessions can be offered at different locations rather than operating exclusively from one fixed training centre.

Suitable private areas can be used for beginner and machine-control sessions, while road-based rider development can be arranged around carefully selected routes.

Locations and dates vary according to availability.

If you are interested in training in a particular area, get in touch.

FROM RACING TO ROAD RIDING

A lifetime around motorcycles.

Motorcycling has been a major part of Gordon Cook's life for decades.

That experience includes road riding, motorcycle training and competitive motorcycle racing.

Racing and road riding are very different disciplines, but years spent understanding motorcycles, balance, braking, throttle control, grip and rider behaviour provide a depth of experience that cannot be learned from a manual.

On the road, however, the priorities are very different.

They are:

Observation. Planning. Control. Confidence. Safety.

The objective is not to turn somebody into a racer.

It is to help them become a better road rider.

WHY TRAIN WITH GORDON?

Training should be personal.

People learn differently.

Some riders understand something immediately.

Others need to practise it several times.

Some want to know exactly why a technique works.

Others learn best by trying it.

Good training recognises that.

Experienced

Years of real-world motorcycle riding, training and competitive riding experience.

Friendly

No unnecessary pressure and no making someone feel foolish because they are learning.

Professional

Structured training with safety at the centre of everything.

Personal

Sessions can be tailored around the individual, their motorcycle and their objectives.

Passionate

Motorcycling should be enjoyable.

That is the reason most of us started riding in the first place.
